Reynisfjara Shore (Black Sand Beach)

I’ve seen so many photos of the rock structures along the Reynisfjara shore but what most impressed me in person was the sea itself. It raged against the shore with a kind of constant fury that well articulated the antiquity of their animosity. The beauty of the beach is that everyone stands near the rocks and takes their photos and leaves, so if you walk a few hundred yards away from the parking lot you’re essentially alone, standing there with the cacophony of the waves for company. We loved it so much that we went there twice, once just watching quietly until the sun went down and the whole scene was as dark as the sand.
